Membership FAQ

Membership FAQ

1. I’m excited to join! How do I get started?

Awesome! Fill out our membership application form [link below] to get started. We review applications in the order they’re received and will be in touch as soon as we can!

2. I’m new to ceramics—should I get a membership?

Great question! If you’re just starting out, we recommend taking a class first. Membership is best for those with prior ceramics experience. We offer one-time workshops if you want to dip your toes in, as well as 4-week courses to build your skills.

3. What cone do you fire to?

We fire to Cone 5 Electric and currently offer 3 clay bodies for purchase:

  • NM Clay: Columnbine

  • NM Clay: WH8

  • NM Clay: Especkled

We’re always exploring new options and plan to add another clay body soon!

4. Can I bring my own clay?

To protect everyone's work and our kilns, we only allow clay purchased through the studio. If there's a specific clay body you’re hoping to use that we don’t carry, reach out—we’re happy to chat about options!

5. What does membership include?

Membership at Ceramica gives you access to:

  • Flexible studio hours for members

  • Your own dedicated shelf for work-in-progress storage

  • Extra shelf space for clay storage

  • Full access to our 12 Shimpo Whisper Wheels (up to 6 may be in use during class times—check the schedule!)

6. Is there a minimum membership commitment?

Yes—our memberships have a two-month minimum commitment. After that, they continue on a month-to-month basis and can be canceled with at least 30 days' notice.

7. Can I really use any glazes and tools?

Yes! We want you to explore and experiment freely. Ceramics can be an expensive hobby, and we don’t want cost to limit creativity. That’s why we provide a wide range of glazes, underglazes, and tools for members to use—no extra purchases required (unless you want your own personal set!).

8. Do you offer outside firing?

Occasionally, yes! If you're interested in outside firing, send us an email to arrange it. Please note: we do not offer firing or glaze memberships at this time.

9. Do you offer group or family membership plans?

At this time, we do not offer group or family membership plans. All memberships are individual and designed to provide a personalized creative experience.

10. What is the age requirement for membership?

Memberships at Ceramica are available for individuals aged 16 and up. Exceptions may be made for students under 16 (13-15 minimum age) who have completed multiple month-long classes and demonstrate the ability to work independently without adult supervision.

Zero Tolerance Policy (We’re serious about this.)

At Ceramica, we believe in creating a welcoming, respectful, and inspiring space for everyone. To keep our studio a safe and supportive place, we have a few non-negotiables:

  • Kindness is key. No rudeness, no disrespect to staff or community members—just direct communication and mutual respect.

  • Respect the space and each other. That means no stealing, no intentional damage to tools, supplies, or anyone’s work (including your fellow artists’ personal belongings).

  • Keep your critiques to yourself—unless asked. Everyone is on their own creative journey, and unsolicited feedback isn’t part of the ride.

  • Clean up after yourself. We get it—life happens. But as a shared space, we all pitch in. Leave the studio as clean (or cleaner!) than you found it.

These aren’t just rules; they’re what make Ceramica a place where creativity and community thrive. Let’s keep it that way. 💛
